Don't let chicken manure ruin your crops anymore, use with caution!

Many people always think that chicken manure is precious and belongs to organic fertilizer, so they will accumulate it for crop fertilization. But in reality, chicken manure is not equal to organic fertilizer. Because only fertilizers such as straw, cake, and livestock manure that have been fermented and processed through decomposition are considered organic fertilizers. Chicken manure belongs to animal manure and can only be considered as raw material for the production of organic fertilizers. In fact, unfermented chicken manure can have a devastating impact on crops. Today, let's take a look at the disasters caused by chicken manure!

1. Burning roots, burning seedlings, smoking plants, dead plants

If chicken manure is not fully fermented, the soil temperature will rise, leading to a large number of crop deaths and delaying agricultural time. Especially in the winter and spring seasons, if the temperature in the greenhouse is high, the fermentation of chicken manure will release heat, which is more likely to cause root burning and directly affect the growth of crops the following year.

2. The soil inside the greenhouse is salinized, resulting in reduced fruit yield

If farmers use chicken manure every year, it is easy to leave a large amount of sodium chloride residue in the soil inside the greenhouse, which will restrict the permeability and activity of the soil, leading to abnormal crop growth, reduced fruit yield, and other problems. In addition, it can also cause root hypoxia and poor growth, as chicken manure consumes oxygen from the soil during decomposition, which inhibits crop growth. More seriously, frequent use of chicken manure can also reduce the utilization rate of normal fertilizers, thereby increasing input costs.

3. Acidizing soil, inducing diseases

The pH value of chicken manure is around 4, which is extremely acidic and can acidify the soil, causing chemical damage to the stem base and root tissues of crops. At the same time, a large number of bacteria carried in chicken manure can invade crops when they are injured. Once the humidity and temperature reach a certain level, the disease will completely break out.

4. Breeding of root knot nematodes

One of the favorite hiding places for root nematodes is chicken manure, as the environment of chicken manure facilitates their hatching and reproduction. Experiments have shown that the incidence of nematodes in soil increases by more than 500% in plots with chicken manure. In addition, nematodes are extremely sensitive to chemical pesticides. If farmers apply pesticides, nematodes will quickly move to deep underground to avoid, so once they appear, it is difficult to cure them.

5. Introducing antibiotics, affecting the safety of agricultural products

Many chickens inevitably consume a certain amount of hormones during free range farming, which are then eliminated by the chickens and contained in their feces. Fertilization with chicken manure at this time will directly affect the safety of agricultural products.

6. Generate harmful gases, leading to fumigation and dead seedlings

During the decomposition process of chicken manure, harmful gases such as methane and ammonia are produced, causing great damage to soil and crops, especially root damage, which is also the main reason for the occurrence of root burning phenomenon. Why does chicken manure seem to have such good effects despite its numerous hazards?

This is because the proportion of organic matter in chicken manure is about 25.5%, and more than 60% of the organic matter contained is in the form of uric acid, which decomposes to produce nitrogen. Therefore, using one thousand pounds of chicken manure is equivalent to applying 153 pounds of urea, which makes the crop surface look robust. Once it occurs on eggplants or fruit trees and grapes, serious physiological disease problems will occur.

The root cause is that excessive use of urea can hinder the absorption of various trace elements, leading to yellowing, navel rot, fruit cracking, chicken claw disease, and other conditions. I have introduced several hazards of chicken manure not being fully decomposed, and I suggest that you think more and compare them in your daily operations. It is worth noting that if you must use chicken manure, please undergo complete fermentation and harmless treatment before applying it to the soil!
